Bus To Nowhere


In small groups students sit one behind the other. The person at the back of each group os shown a character, and they write it on the back of the person in front of them, and so on. When the 'message' is passed to the front, that person writes it on the board. The first group to correctly write on the board wins.

Alphabet Twister

As a cheap and larger alternative to the commercial 'Twister' game, a large plastic tarpolen with Japanese Hiragana symbols written in thick permanent markers worst well to recreate the game for larger groups. Student revise hiragana, body parts, and left and right.

Fly Swat


Members from two teams compete to correctly swat a vocabulary item from a group of words or images written or stuck to the board, using cheap plastic fly-swats.

Playdough Hiragana


As the name suggests you need a small amount of play dough for each student. You or a student calls out a character and the first student to roll their play dough into that shape wins a point.
